Ironton High School Commencement
May 24, 2026
Tonight marks the 28th consecutive year that the Dr. and Mrs. Barney Osborne Memorial Scholarship has been presented to an outstanding graduating senior at Ironton High School. The scholarship is named for my mother and father. Dr. Barney Osborne was a graduate Ironton High School and after returning from World War II, he graduated from medical school and returned to Ironton to start his medical practice. He served the people of Ironton as a doctor and surgeon for 30 years before his passing in 1985. The scholarship is a one-time, $5,000 award that is given to a graduating senior who not only excelled in the classroom but was also active in the community and participated in several extracurricular activities while at Ironton High School.
To qualify for the Osborne Scholarship, a graduating senior must complete an application indicating their academic accomplishments, their extracurricular activities, community involvement and an essay whose subject matter is determined by both of our Board of Directors and Ironton High School Administration. In the 28 years our Board has been reviewing these applications, there have been very few that have matched the achievements of our winner this evening. Our Board of Directors were quite impressed. I know if my dad was still with us he would also be most impressed.

So, it is with great pride and honor to announce tonight’s winner of the 2026 Dr. and Mrs. Barney Osborne Scholarship to Lilly Lewis.
