Ironton High School Commencement
May 25, 2025

Tonight marks the 27th consecutive year that the Dr. and Mrs. Barney Osborne Memorial Scholarship has been presented to an outstanding graduating senior at Ironton High School. The scholarship is named for my mother and father. Dr. Barney Osborne was a graduate Ironton High School and after returning from World War II, he graduated from medical school and returned to Ironton to start his medical practice. He served the people of Ironton as a doctor and surgeon for 30 years before his passing in 1985.
The scholarship is a one-time, $5,000 award that Is given to a graduating senior who not only excelled in the classroom, but was also active in the community and participated in several extracurricular activities while at Ironton High School.
Our winner this evening is a Summa Cum Laude graduate and has been very active in the community by participating in many different activities working with children in various capacities in the Lawrence County area. So, it is with quite pride and honor to announce tonight’s winner of the 2025 Dr. and Mrs. Barney Osborne Scholarship – Emily York.
