Ironton High School Commencement
May 27, 2018

Good evening. My name is Dave Osborne and I am the son of Dr. and Mrs. Barney Osborne.  Tonight marks twenty years of awarding the Dr. and Mrs. Barney Osborne Memorial Scholarship here at Ironton High School.  The scholarship is a one-time $1,500 scholarship given to an Ironton High School graduating senior who has excelled not only in the classroom, but also in extracurricular activities, as well as helping the Ironton community.

The scholarship is in honor of my father who, as a surgeon and family physician, served the community of Ironton and Lawrence County for over 30 years before his passing in 1985 and my mother, who supported our family and lived in Ironton almost all of her life before her passing in 2002.

The winner of tonight’s scholarship has significant academic accomplishments while at Ironton High School including a GPA that exceeds 4.3 and participation in the Red Cross Blood Drive, the Hospice 5K, Muscular Dystrophy Camp, and the Oncology Toy Drive,   During her time at Ironton High School, our winner has also held multiple part-time jobs.  Se is truly a most deserving winner. So tonight I am proud to present the 2018 Dr. and Mrs. Barney Osborne Memorial Scholarship to Elena Wilson.
