Ironton High School Commencement
May 28, 2006

On a beautiful, sunny Memorial Day weekend evening Dave Osborne presented the Dr. and Mrs. Barney Osborne Memorial Scholarship. Highlights of the award speech are presented here:

Good evening. My name is Dave Osborne and I want to thank Ironton High School for allowing me to present the 2006 Dr. and Mrs. Barney Osborne Memorial Scholarship. This year, our Board decided to raise the scholarship to a one-time, $1,500 award. The scholarship is named for my father and mother, both long time residents of Ironton. My father, as many of you remember, was a practicing doctor and surgeon in Ironton for over 30 years before his passing in 1985. My mother was a strong supporter of education and Ironton High School before her passing in 2002.

The scholarship is awarded to a student who excel in academics, while also being active in community events and extracurricular activities. Tonight’s winner is a Magna Cum Laude graduate and member of the National Honor Society. She was also a star on the Ironton’s women’s basketball team. My dad would be very proud to know that tonight’s winner has decided to pursue a Pre-Medicine. It is gives me great pleasure in presenting tonight’s Dr. and Mrs. Barney Osborne Memorial Scholarship to Danielle Henderson.
